Purple Heron, a species new to Northern Ireland

On the 17th May 2011, whilst undertaking survey work, a Purple Heron was found by Dave Allen and Clive Mellon at Boomers Reservoir, Lisburn. The bird was seen until the 19th May by a number of local birders. This species is a long awaited addition to the NI list. It is annual in spring in RoI and now breeds in England.
